About logon.info

UK Business Warriors

Who is logon.info??

Putting it very simply, logon.info is the brainchild and public pseudonym for Tony Blacker, a web developer living in Ipswich, Suffolk in the UK. Tony lives with his wife and two sons, and when not developing websites, is normally to be found with his nose in a book, behind the wheel of a car doing taxi services of some kind for various family members or quite possibly sleeping.

Tony's Background

Tony Blacker, aka logon.info

Tony started working online way back in 2002, starting as a part time hobbyist, he very quickly stumbled upon a project which offered an Open Source (click for definition if this is a new one on you) Shopping cart that would very soon become osCommerce. Starting as a complete newbie, he was frequently found on the forums asking very basic questions and being baffled by very advanced answers. So, after perservering for many an all night stint, he started to pick things up, and by mid 2003 was to be found on those same forums giving answers to those same very basic questions. Natural progression then occurred, and by the time 2004 hit, he was developing contributions of his own and answering (as well as asking) some extremely advanced queries. Naturally this lead quite a few users to his services, and within 6 months he quit normal work altogether and decided to concentrate on web development full time.

Along the way he stumbled into the CRELoaded forums and very quickly became a fixture, and picked up quite a few awards for his services. Tony is now to be found lurking over at osQuantum, a breakaway project from the osCommerce family which is developing a brand new shopping cart platform, coded purely in PHP5. (For the non techies out there, that basically means its got lots of new goodies in it and should last a hell of a lot longer into the future, as well as running quicker for your admin and for your customers).

The Web and Local Community

You will notice from the above that Tony spends a lot of time on public forums, and the vast majority of time this is to give completely free support and advice to users of open source software. There is a very simple rule to this free advice - if it is public, and benefits more than just the person asking, the advice will always be free. If the question or issue is specific to only one site or details cannot be displayed publically, the work becomes chargeable. This (he believes) is a very open, fair and honest way of maintaining support for online communities whilst ensuring an ethical income from his work.

The only exceptions to this policy come in the case of charitable organisations and NFPO's (not for profit organisations), for whom logon.info donate a large amount of time, whether it be in creating whole websites for information and fundraising purposes, or simply supporting existing websites through code, advice and design.

Obviously there is much more to logon.info than the above, but we hope this (fairly) short summary gives you a good idea of who Tony Blacker is, and how we work with our customers. Please get in touch if you would like any more information though.
